Joey Whelihan, MD, serves as delegate of the Resident & Fellow Section Governing Council at the American Medical Association for the 2024-2025 term.

The RFS is a member interest group within the AMA to provide resident and fellow participation in the activities of the AMA and gives a voice to and advocates for issues that impact them.

Dr. Whelihan is an adolescent medicine fellow at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. His professional interests are in LGBTQ+ health and advocating for health equity through health policy and medical education. Specifically, he is interested in using strengths-based approaches to mitigate health disparities for LGBTQ+ youth by improving healthcare access, delivery and quality. Dr. Whelihan earned a B.S. in biochemistry and behavioral and cognitive neuroscience and completed his medical education at the University of Florida. He also completed his pediatrics residency at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
