2024 Interim Meeting of the HOD: Aug. 27 Speakers' Update

. 6 MIN READ

The 2024 Interim Meeting of the AMA House of Delegates (I-24) will be held Nov. 8-12 at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort, Orlando, Florida. The AMA section meetings will be held Nov. 7 and 8. Please check with your section regarding their individual meeting times.

Advanced online registration is required for all attendees and their guests and children. To register, visit the interim meeting webpage. You will need to sign into the AMA website to register. Registration should be completed by all attendees to attest to abide by the AMA Code of Conduct. Participants must also attest for their guests. Attendees must personally complete their registration; it should not be completed by other individuals. Your name on your badge will appear exactly as you type it into the system. Please do not use all CAPS or all lowercase letters.

Volunteers needed

We are still in need of volunteers to serve on reference committees, the Rules & Credentials Committee and as tellers for I-24. Please complete the HOD Committee Volunteer Form and indicate all committee(s) on which you would be interested in serving. The deadline to submit the volunteer form is Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, by 5 p.m. Central.

Preference will be given to those who have not recently served; however, all interested are encouraged to apply. Those who currently serve on AMA councils will not be considered for service to allow for leadership opportunities for others.

Preliminary reference committee reports

All reference committees will meet virtually on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, to develop their preliminary reference committee reports based on testimony received on the online reference committees (ORC). This will be the first time such reports will be developed and we anticipate it may be a more involved process. Therefore, we ask that all who are interested in serving on reference committees hold that weekend open to accommodate these meetings and attest on their form to their availability. If volunteers are not available that weekend, we will be unable to appoint them to a reference committee.

The HOD Office is now accepting resolution submissions for the 2024 Interim Meeting of the AMA House of Delegates. Detailed information about resolution submission along with resolution templates may be found on the HOD webpage.

The deadline for I-24 resolutions is Sept. 24, 2024, at 5 p.m. Central. All appropriately formatted resolutions received by this deadline will be considered on-time and posted to the online reference committees for review and comment. Resolutions adopted and forwarded by the AMA sections after this date are excepted. As a reminder, all on-time resolutions will be reviewed by the Resolution Committee to determine if they meet the criteria for an interim meeting.

Per the adoption of the recommendations from the Resolution Modernization Task Force, we will open the Online Reference Committees (ORC) on Oct. 4, 2024. They will remain open for three weeks after which the preliminary reference committee reports will be developed by the reference committees. All AMA members may comment on the ORC, and it is hoped a robust discussion will ensue. Authors are encouraged to comment as early as possible after the ORC opens.

Note that there is no limit on length of comments and that supplemental material may be added. However, please limit the addition of large files or photos. Please use a hyperlink where possible. Additionally, you are reminded that there will be no reaffirmation calendar at this meeting. Discussion of potential policy that may be reaffirmed in lieu of a given resolution will occur on the ORC.

Each comment on the ORC should include in ALL CAPS at the start of each post within the comment box:

  • Name
  • All appropriate roles (e.g. author, HOD delegate or alternate from "X" delegation, section member, council member, etc.)
  • For whom you are speaking (on behalf of yourself or your group)

HOD credentialing forms for all delegations are due Friday, Aug. 30, 2024. If you have not submitted your form, please do so ASAP. HOD meeting credentials will be prepared for your delegate(s) and alternate delegate(s) based on the information you provide at this time. Society staff can access the online credential certification instructions and form on the HOD webpageIf you are not able to access the online form, or if you have questions about the process, please email [email protected] or [email protected]
