2024 Interim Meeting of the HOD: Sept. 13 Speakers' Update

. 6 MIN READ

The deadline to submit resolutions for the 2024 Interim Meeting (I-24) of the AMA House of Delegates (HOD) is Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. Central. All resolutions received by this deadline will be considered on-time for this meeting. Detailed information about resolution submission and the resolution template are accessible on the HOD webpage.

Important reminders for submitting a resolution:

  • The HOD office will not format or edit resolution submissions.
  • Resolutions that do not adhere to the posted template will be returned to the sponsor for editing which must be completed prior to the on-time deadline.
  • No edits/corrections will be accepted after the submission deadline.
  • All on-time resolutions will be reviewed by the Resolution Committee to determine if they meet the criteria for an interim meeting.

All appropriately formatted resolutions received by Sept. 24, 2024, 5 p.m. Central will be considered on-time and posted to the Online Reference Committees for review and comment. Resolutions adopted and forwarded by the AMA sections after this date are excepted.

Chairs/staff of HOD groups endorsing A-26 candidates

Endorsing groups are those that plan to publicly endorse a candidate that are not the candidate’s sponsoring group. Such groups include state or specialty delegations, regional or specialty caucuses, section councils and AMA sections. Further details can be found on the HOD endorsement information webpage. The deadline to submit information about your group’s endorsement process via the group endorsement form for the A-26 election cycle is Oct. 11, 2024 by 5 p.m. Central

The A-26 election cycle endorsement window opens on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, at the I-24 Interim Meeting.

Candidates for election at A-26

Please review the group endorsement list which can be found on the HOD endorsement information webpage. Your speakers wish to draw to your attention that this list includes deadlines which are rapidly approaching. Currently the earliest is Sept. 30, 2024. This list will be updated frequently as more forms are submitted and will be finalized after the Oct. 11 deadline. A-26 candidates may not be endorsed by a group that is not on this posted list. Interested eligible candidates are responsible for contacting groups to participate in their endorsement process.

Per the adoption of the recommendations from the Resolution Modernization Task Force, we will open the Online Reference Committees (ORC) on Oct. 4, 2024. They will remain open for three weeks after which the preliminary reference committee reports will be developed by the reference committees. All AMA members may comment on the ORC, and it is hoped a robust discussion will ensue. Authors are encouraged to comment as early as possible after the ORC opens.

Note that there is no limit on length of comments and that supplemental material may be added. However, please limit the addition of large files or photos. Please use a hyperlink where possible. Additionally, you are reminded that there will be no reaffirmation calendar at this meeting. Discussion of potential policy that may be reaffirmed in lieu of a given resolution will occur on the ORC.

Each comment on the ORC should include in ALL CAPS at the start of each post within the comment box:

  • Name
  • All appropriate roles (e.g., author, HOD delegate or alternate from "X" delegation, section member, council member, etc.)
  • For whom you are speaking (on behalf of yourself or your group)

Volunteers still needed

We are still looking for a few volunteers to serve on reference committees, the Rules & Credentials Committee and as tellers for I-24. We have extended the deadline to Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024. If you are interested in serving, please complete the HOD committee volunteer form.

Preliminary reference committee reports

All reference committees will meet virtually on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, to develop their preliminary reference committee reports based on testimony received on the online reference committees (ORC). This will be the first time such reports will be developed, and we anticipate it will be a more involved process. Therefore, we ask that all who are interested in serving on reference committees hold that weekend open to accommodate these meetings and attest on their form to their availability. If volunteers are not available that weekend, we will be unable to appoint them to a reference committee.

The 2024 Interim Meeting of the AMA House of Delegates will be held Nov. 8-12 at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort, Orlando, Florida. The AMA section meetings will be held Nov. 7 and 8. Please check with your section regarding their individual meeting times.

Advanced online registration is required for all attendees and their guests and children. To register, visit the interim meeting webpage. You will need to sign into the AMA website to register. Registration should be completed by all attendees to attest to abide by the AMA Code of Conduct. Participants must also attest for their guests. Attendees must personally complete their registration; it should not be completed by other individuals. Your name on your badge will appear exactly as you type it into the system. Please do not use all CAPS or all lowercase letters.
