Subhash Chandra, MD

Subhash Chandra, MD, is a general and forensic psychiatrist who works as the senior medical director of the University Settlement Consultation Center (USCC) and medical director for the Center for Alternative Sentencing and Employment Services (CASES). USCC caters to the mental health needs of thousands of unsettled immigrant New Yorkers and fights against poverty and systemic inequality. CASES addresses the mental health needs of justice-involved youth. 

Dr. Chandra completed his medical school in India and did his residency in forensic medicine, followed by a postgraduate diploma in clinical trial management in New Delhi, India. He worked as an assistant professor at the Institute of Clinical Research in India and taught forensic medicine and psychiatry to medical students across major cities in India and abroad. Dr. Chandra completed his psychiatry residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center (SDMC) in Brooklyn, New York, and his forensic psychiatry fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, Perelman School of Medicine. 

He has extensive experience working as a forensic psychiatrist at the Brooklyn Supreme Court and assistant professor of psychiatry at SDMC and other locations. He also teaches meditation techniques and has discussed the scientific benefits of meditation for the last ten years via the North America Institute of Vihangam Yoga. Dr. Chandra is helping fellow physicians in a mental health crisis via the MSSNY Peer-to-Peer program.
