The LGBTQ+ Section participated at 2024 Interim as a section for the first time! The governing council was proud to host a reception with over 100+ attendees celebrating the new section.
Governing council updates
The inaugural LGBTQ+ Section Governing Council members held the first business meeting which included important updates on the charter and mission of the section, the three newly formed committees: policy; research and education and membership and engagement committees, and discussion on the four resolutions introduced by the section:
- Resolution 004: Improving Electronic Health Records for Trans and Gender Diverse Patients
- Resolution 915: Removing Barriers for Sports Accessibility for LGBTQIA+ people
- Resolution 916: Access to GAC for Trans and Gender Diverse People in the Carceral System
- Resolution 917: Mpox Global Health Emergency Recognition and Response
The section also heard important updates from Dr. Bill Jordan, the equity policy and transformation senior director with the Center for Health Equity; Kyle A. Palazzolo, JD, assistant general counsel with the AMA Litigation Center; and Dr. Sion Roy with the AMPAC Board of Directors.
Education session
The LGBTQ+ Section, Minority Affairs Section and the Medical Student Section held a joint CME accredited education session: Engaging Minoritized Patients to Trust Health care Professionals.

Objectives of session:
- Summarize historical medical mistreatment faced by LGBTQIA+, Hispanic, Immigrant, Black, and Indigenous communities.
- Describe how workforce development can contribute to reducing mistrust in Indigenous communities.
- Discuss the unique social determinants of health, health care access barriers, and specific cultural considerations faced by individuals and community groups
