The AMA Minority Affairs Section (MAS) held its 2024 Interim Meeting on Friday, Nov. 8 in Orlando, Florida.
Education sessions & updates
In conjunction with the LGBTQ+ Section and the Medical Student Section, MAS presented an education session on “Engaging Minoritized Patients to Trust Health Care Professionals.” The session addressed the historical legacy of medical mistreatment on minoritized communities and provided attendees with tools to reduce mistrust through cultural competency and language.
MAS also heard informative updates from the AMA Board of Trustees, the AMA Center for Health Equity, the AMA Foundation, AMPAC and the AMA Alliance. Thank you to all who contributed to the MAS meeting in this way.
MAS resolutions
MAS advanced three resolutions to the AMA House of Delegates (HOD) for consideration at the 2024 Interim Meeting. Topics included: ACA subsidies for undocumented immigrants, opposition to the deceptive relocation of migrants and asylum seekers, and supporting diversity in research.
Members also discussed a variety of other items relevant to MAS that will be considered by the HOD at this meeting and for which MAS will advocate. MAS looks forward to reporting outcomes on these resolutions.
