Avani Patel, MD, MHA

Avani K. Patel, MD, MHA, a practicing psychiatrist in Jackson, Mississippi, with additional training in sports psychiatry, serves as the Young Physician Section representative on the AMA Women Physicians Section Governing Council for the 2024-2026 term.

The WPS is a member interest group within the AMA for women physicians and medical students. The section governing council is responsible for increasing the membership, participation and leadership of women in the AMA as well as advocating on women’s health and women in medicine policy issues.

Dr. Patel received her master’s in health care administration with emphasis on executive level leadership (CEO/CMO) from Oklahoma State University Graduate College. Dr. Patel is a graduate of the American Medical Association and Satcher Health Leadership Institute at Morehouse Medical Justice in Advocacy Fellowship having participated in the inaugural class. She most recently completed four terms as a Resident & Fellow Section (RFS) delegate to the AMA House of Delegates and former vice chair of the RFS Committee on Business and Economics.
