A note from the IMGS chair
September 2024
From IMGS Chair Tani Malhotra, MD
This past month the IMGS Governing Council met in Rosemont, Illinois, to develop our strategic plan to best serve the members of our section. We have identified these main strategic goals for the year:
- To support and advocate for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) throughout their professional careers
- To develop impactful policies that address issues affecting IMGs
- To continue to be an IMG resource to outside organizations
- To identify leadership opportunities for IMGs
While we work on implementing our plan, we need your help. If you are in a place where you can serve as a mentor to a residency applicant, a resident, an early career attending or even someone who is planning their retirement, we want to hear from you. Please share your information with us at [email protected].
IMG Recognition Week
We will be celebrating IMG Recognition Week from Oct. 21-25, 2024, highlighting how IMGs have positively influenced their communities and the U.S. health care system. We want to hear your accomplishments. If you would like to be recognized, please share your achievements.
Physician mentor recognition
We will also be recognizing a physician mentor. If you feel an IMG contributed significantly to your life, please nominate them at [email protected]. The IMG Physician Mentor of the Year will be recognized during IMG Recognition Week. Please watch for more information about the webinars that will be held during that week as well.
Meet the IMGS Governing Council
As I promised, I will be introducing you to members of our governing council. This month we are highlighting Natalia Solenkova, MD, PhD. She is the immediate past chair of the section, an internist and intensivist originally from Russia who now lives in Florida (big weather change!).
In addition to her medical practice, Dr. Solenkova is deeply committed to advocacy work, promoting ethical practice of medicine, equitable access to care for patients and fair practice conditions for historically underrepresented physicians.
