Having a broad perspective of life both inside and outside the medical profession can help buffer the daily challenges of caring for patients. Start a gratitude journal, learn something new, develop your spiritual practice and consider taking a mindfulness class. Embrace joy. Whatever you are passionate about—music, gardening, traveling—remember to schedule (and keep) time to enjoy the things that make you happy.
