WASHINGTON — The American Medical Association (AMA) presented U.S. Rep. Neal Dunn, M.D. of Florida with the AMA Award for Outstanding Government Service for his work on issues critical to patients and physicians. This award recognizes Dr. Dunn’s efforts to prevent devastating Medicare cuts to physician practices and work to tie the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule to the Medicare Economic Index.
“At a challenging moment for our health system, patients, and physicians, Dr. Dunn’s experience, and knowledge are critical to shoring up physician practices and improving the health of the nation,” said AMA Board Chair Michael Suk, M.D., JD, MPH, MBA. “As physician practices struggle to stay afloat, his work to fix the broken Medicare payment system is vital to ensuring patients have access to the care they need. It is an honor to present Rep. Neal Dunn with the AMA Award for Outstanding Government Service.”

Congressman Dunn was a surgeon in Panama City, Fla., for more than 25 years, and he served in the U.S. Army for over 10 years before that. Dr. Dunn was the founding president of a large surgical practice and has a subspecialty interest in advanced prostate cancer.
Dr. Dunn currently serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the oldest standing legislative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. The committee is responsible for energy policy, interstate and foreign commerce, telecommunications, consumer protection, food and drug safety, public health and research, and environmental quality among others. Dr. Dunn is the vice chair of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health.
He earned his B.S. from Washington and Lee University and his M.D. from the George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
