WASHINGTON — The American Medical Association (AMA) presented the Kaiser Family Foundation with the Dr. Nathan Davis Award for Outstanding Government Service. The Foundation was selected for the AMA’s top government service award for its contributions to the national debate on Medicare, Medicaid and health system reform.
Since the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010, for example, the Foundation has delivered valuable information about each state’s implementation of ACA, including Medicaid expansion and the rollout of exchanges.
The Foundation later served a key role during the 2017 congressional debate on the ACA, providing data-driven analyses, studies and surveys about the impact of the proposed House and Senate reform bills. The Foundation hosted a range of ACA studies on its website, including a recent 50-state survey about the future of Medicaid and a tool to help patients calculate their 2018 ACA premiums and tax credits.
“Under the leadership of President and CEO Drew Altman, the Kaiser Family Foundation has served as a vital resource for consumers on key health policy issues and provided a data-driven model for advocacy,” said AMA Board Chair Gerald E. Harmon, M.D. “Valued by many for the integrity of their data and policy recommendations, the Kaiser Family Foundation is providing the transparency and information that patients, providers and health care markets need in today’s climate.”
The Kaiser Family Foundation was one of six honorees chosen this year to receive the Dr. Nathan Davis Award for Outstanding Government Service. The award, named for the founding father of the AMA, recognizes elected and career officials in federal, state or municipal service whose outstanding contributions have promoted the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health.
The AMA presented the Foundation with the Dr. Nathan Davis Award last night at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. as part of the AMA’s National Advocacy Conference.
