ATLANTA — The American Medical Association (AMA) presented Corinne Broderick, executive vice president of the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS), with the Medical Executive Lifetime Achievement Award. The award is given by the AMA to honor a medical association executive who has contributed substantially to the goals and ideals of the medical profession.
"The AMA is pleased to present Corinne Broderick with this year's Medical Executive Lifetime Achievement Award for her commitment to serving the patients and physicians of Massachusetts," said AMA Board Chair Stephen R. Permut, M.D.
Broderick joined the MMS in 1984 as director of education and communications. She then served as vice president of operations and also as senior vice president. In 2001, Broderick assumed her current role as executive vice president (EVP)—becoming the first non-physician EVP in Massachusetts Medical Society history.
Over her 30-year career with the MMS, Broderick has made great strides in helping to ensure that Massachusetts physicians and patients have an important voice in state and national health care discussions. She also helped the MMS grow its membership significantly to more than 25,000 members, an all-time high for the organization. During her tenure overseeing operations, the MMS was named by the Boston Globe as one of the top 100 places to work in Massachusetts for four consecutive years and was named one of the 50 places to work in Massachusetts by the Boston Business Journal.
Broderick has also served on numerous non-profit health and safety boards, including the Home Safety Council, the Biomedical Science Careers Program, Inc., and Physician Health Services, Inc. She was also selected as the first and only woman to serve as chair of the board of the National Fire Protection Association, the international nonprofit association that produces fire safety codes and standards.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Master of Science degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Southern California.
The award was presented to Broderick during the opening session of the 2015 AMA Interim Meeting in Atlanta.
