CHICAGO — The American Medical Association (AMA) announced the re-election of Illinois family physician William E. Kobler, M.D., to its 21-member Board of Trustees. Dr. Kobler and other members of the Board were elected by physicians and medical students in Chicago this week during the Annual Meeting of the House of Delegates, the AMA's policy-making body. The mission of the AMA Board of Trustees is to foster the promotion of the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health.

"I am honored to be re-elected to the AMA Board for another four-year term," said Dr. Kobler. "The AMA Strategic Plan has generated a lot of excitement, and positive changes are occurring as a result. However, there are many challenges yet to be addressed and I am energized to work with the Board and others to solve them."

A board-certified family physician in Rockford, Ill., Dr. Kobler was first elected to the AMA's Board of Trustees in June 2012 and has been an AMA delegate since 2000. He has served in many capacities in the AMA House of Delegates, including as a member of the AMA Council on Medical Service and as its chair from 2010 to 2011.

At the state level, Dr. Kobler was elected as a trustee of the Illinois Medical Society and served as president from 2003 to 2004. In 2010 he was appointed by the governor of Illinois to serve on the Illinois Health Information Exchange Authority board.

Dr. Kobler graduated cum laude from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. He completed his family practice residency and served as chief resident at the Rockford Medical Education Foundation, an affiliate of the University of Illinois School of Medicine.

He is married with two sons and five grandchildren.
