The AMA continues to support evidence-based immunizations to help reduce the risk of severe disease, hospitalization and death, and protect public health. We work to promote public understanding and confidence in the use of vaccines to avoid the resurgence of vaccine-preventable illnesses and deaths. AMA advocacy

  • Jan. 7, 2026: The AMA joined a letter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the CDC calling on them to reaffirm their commitment to a transparent, evidence-based immunization policy process and to ensure that U.S. childhood vaccination recommendations remain grounded in science.
  • Oct. 15, 2025: AMA joined an amicus brief (PDF) in the case of AAP vs. Kennedy calling for government recommendations regarding the COVID-19 vaccine to reflect the full body of medical evidence and to follow the statutorily process for the provision of vaccine guidance.
  • June 18, 2025:  AMA sent a letter (PDF) to HHS to express significant concern regarding recent action to terminate the entirety of the membership of the ACIP.
  • June 13, 2025: AMA sent a letter (PDF) to Senate leadership regarding the actions by HHS to terminate the appointments of the 17 voting members of the ACIP, and urges inquiry to the circumstances surrounding the decision to remove and replace all sitting members.
  • May 29, 2025: AMA sent a letter (PDF) HHS to express concern regarding the approach to recommendations regarding COVID-19 vaccines. AMA strongly urges HHS, CDC and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure transparency in their decision-making process.
