Earn CME by attending live events and webinars
CME credit will be available to physicians who attend the 2018 AMA Interim Meeting in National Harbor, Maryland, Nov. 10–13. Officials and AMA members gather to address policy, while also attending various educational sessions. At the 2018 AMA Annual Meeting in Chicago, attendees had the opportunity to register for more than 20 CME credits.
The AMA's Share, Listen, Speak, Learn Series provides instruction to help physicians lead the five phases of practice transformation. The series makes resources available in one place and provides simple yet instructive information on topics that relate to goals of the Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative (TCPI). Physicians also can attend webinars on the usability and optimization of electronic health records, embedding shared decision-making in practice, opioid safety and others.
One element of that series available for CME credit is “A Step-wise Approach to Practice Transformation.” This series provides physicians with the tools and support to further develop their comprehensive quality improvement (QI) strategies. The 30-minute webinars presented during the third phase of TCPI cover topics such as learning how behavioral health determinants impact patient care in a primary care setting, using report cards to evaluate your practice, and best practices for engaging the practice team in successful QI implementation.
Precision medicine, burnout and more
Some of the hot topics in CME include physician burnout, precision medicine and chronic disease management. Each featured collection of courses in the AMA AMA Ed Hub™ allows physicians to complete CME credit to improve their medical practice, health system or hospital.
The precision medicine topic offers a series of CME options that provide a tailored approach to health care that accounts for individual variability in genes, environment and lifestyle. The CME courses explore somatic cancer panel testing, expanded carrier screening, prenatal cell-free DNA screening, and genomic testing for healthy individuals.
The chronic disease treatment section features courses on nutrition science, diabetes prevention, blood-pressure management, type 2 diabetes management, and health coaching.
The physician burnout collection offers CME courses that will help physicians redesign their medical practices to minimize stress and improve job satisfaction.
These course bundles feature several AMA STEPS Forward™ modules, including ones in which you will learn about creating a strong team culture, improving physician resiliency, and preventing physician distress and suicide.
AMA’s STEPS Forward is an open-access platform featuring more than 50 modules that offer actionable, expert-driven strategies and insights supported by practical resources and tools. Based on best practices from the field, STEPS Forward modules empower practices to identify areas or opportunities for improvement, set meaningful and achievable goals, and implement transformative changes designed to increase operational efficiencies, elevate clinical team engagement, and improve patient care.
Several modules have been developed from the generous grant funding of the TCPI, an effort designed to help clinicians achieve large-scale health transformation through TCPI’s Practice Transformation Networks.
The AMA, in collaboration with TCPI, is providing technical assistance and peer-level support by way of STEPS Forward resources to enrolled practices. The AMA is also engaging the national physician community in health care transformation through network projects, change packages, success stories and training modules.
