Congress at an impasse
Tuesday, Congressional leaders released a health care package to accompany the FY 2025 Continuing Resolution that was to be voted on by Friday, Dec. 20.
In that package, Congress opted to reduce, rather than eliminate, the scheduled cut in 2025 Medicare physician payments, by providing 2.5% in relief from the scheduled 2.83% cut. No additional positive update was included, nor were the broadly supported statutory reforms of Medicare Advantage prior authorization practices.
For reasons apparently unrelated to the health care provisions, the future of the entire funding package is uncertain. As of this writing, it is unclear what actions Congress will take to keep the government open beyond Dec. 20, nor is it known whether any of the health care matters will be addressed.
