The Business of Medicine can be defined as the economic and organizational aspects of health care, including the management, delivery, financing and regulation of medical services. The opportunity to educate physicians in the Business of Medicine during medical education may be limited by the critical priority of teaching clinical knowledge and skills necessary to care for patients.
In a health care system that is rapidly changing and growing in complexity, lack of knowledge in the Business of Medicine can impact the physician’s ability to sustain their practice and effectively advocate for their patients, their care teams and within their organizations.
The AMA’s goal is to equip practicing physicians with the Business of Medicine knowledge necessary to effectively manage a successful medical practice and be effective leaders in shaping their sustainable future in medicine. To achieve this aim, we developed educational content featured on the AMA Ed Hub™ specifically designed to be:
- Practical and physician-specific
- Applicable to all specialties and practice settings
- Flexibly delivered to meet the needs of busy physicians
The Business of Medicine education program is guided by the AMA Business of Medicine Advisory Committee, which is composed of physicians and thought leaders in clinical practice, administration and academics.
