Advocating for physicians and patients
Over the past four years, I have worked hard with my colleagues on the Council on Medical Service on your behalf. Our Council has been instrumental in addressing critical health care issues, working actively on policies to enhance consumer-driven health care with an emphasis on patient choice and physician autonomy. We have been at the forefront of delivery reform initiatives, ensuring systems promote strong patient-physician relationships, and have tackled the complexities of drug coverage and spending to improve patient adherence and outcomes. The Council has also focused on telemedicine and telehealth, navigating the challenges and opportunities these technologies present while advocating for policies that expand access and reduce costs. Our work on Medicare payment reform, Medicaid and insurance reforms has been vital in ensuring these programs are responsive to the needs of both patients and physicians.
As a private practice physician, I bring a much-needed perspective to the Council's policy discussions, ensuring they are comprehensive and attuned to the needs of frontline doctors and their patients. My front-line experience in primary care provides valuable insights into the practical implications of health care policies, consumer-driven care, delivery reform, drug coverage, and telemedicine integration. Our collective experience ensures that policy development is grounded in the real-world challenges faced by patients and doctors, particularly in the areas of Medicare payment reform, Medicaid and insurance reforms.
An experienced leader
Viability of medical practice
I am eager to continue my role on the AMA Council on Medical Service to advocate for meaningful improvements in health care. Throughout my career, I have been deeply committed to organized medicine, working alongside my colleagues in the AMA House of Delegates to remove barriers to care, address social determinants of health and maintain the economic viability of our practices. My focus is on reducing administrative burdens that threaten the patient-doctor relationship, with the goal of restoring joy to the practice of medicine. My diverse experience empowers me to be a strong voice for our profession, and I am dedicated to making a positive impact for all of us; by prioritizing patient-centered care, I strive to ensure that everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status, receives the high-quality health care they deserve. My focus is on sustainable solutions to improve health care access and delivery, while also supporting meaningful careers for physicians.
My work is not done. Our Council on Medical Service needs practicing physicians in the trenches who are experienced in working to overcome the challenges that physicians and their patients are facing during these difficult times. By having multiple perspectives adequately represented on the Council we can best work together to look at the whole picture and find the right path forward.
My colleagues at the Massachusetts Medical Society and throughout the HOD will attest to my ability to build consensus and achieve results collaboratively. I pledge to continue to work on your behalf as a member of the AMA Council on Medical Service.
