Commitment to science and evidence-based medicine
As a physician leader, I am deeply committed to ensuring that medical policy and public health initiatives remain rooted in sound scientific principles. Throughout my career, I have actively engaged in advocating for evidence-based medical practices and combatting misinformation that threatens patient care. My experience working with state and national organizations has reinforced the need for strong physician voices in shaping public health policies. I believe that the AMA’s Council on Science and Public Health plays a critical role in safeguarding the integrity of our profession, and I am dedicated to contributing my expertise in this area.

Leadership and advocacy experience
As the president of the Mississippi State Medical Association (MSMA), I have led efforts to advocate for physician-led, team-based health care while addressing critical public health challenges. My leadership has included policy development on issues such as health care workforce challenges, scope of practice, and emerging public health threats. I have worked closely with state and national leaders to shape legislation that impacts both physicians and patients, ensuring that medical decisions remain in the hands of those most qualified—physicians.
Physician-led health care advocacy
Public service & community impact
My commitment to public health extends beyond policy and advocacy into direct community impact. In December 2024, I spearheaded a statewide food drive and radiothon in partnership with the Mississippi Food Network and SuperTalk Radio MS, mobilizing the public, physicians and health care workers to combat food insecurity. Recognizing the ongoing need for community support, I also led efforts to expand physician-led blood drives across the state, personally organizing the first in partnership with Mississippi Blood Services, Hattiesburg Clinic, and Ergon.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, as chair of the MSMA Board, I gained national recognition, with numerous media appearances guiding physicians and the public through an unprecedented crisis. One of my proudest contributions was the weekly COVID-19 Facebook updates in collaboration with the Mississippi State Department of Health. These sessions provided real-time, science-based information to both physicians and the public, reinforcing the critical role of medical professionals in combating misinformation and ensuring public health preparedness.
Additionally, I have been a prolific author of policy, shaping impactful legislation, including the successful removal of tianeptine from store shelves in our state. I continue to lead efforts to ban kratom, working to protect the public from dangerous, unregulated substances. My work at the intersection of medicine, legislation, and public service demonstrates a lifelong commitment to safeguarding the well-being of both patients and the medical profession.
