In 2024, FREIDA™ users tallied more than 800,000 views of internal medicine residency programs. In this list, we pare the 663 programs down to the 10 internal medicine residency programs ranked at the top for user interest.

Rankings are based on identified medical student activity on FREIDA™, the AMA Residency & Fellowship Database®, from Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2024. FREIDA allows medical students to search for a residency or fellowship from more than 13,000 programs—all accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Internists are physician specialists uniquely trained to apply scientific knowledge to the care of adults across the spectrum from health to complex illness. Internists may choose to become a general or an internal medical subspecialist.

General internists handle the broad, comprehensive spectrum of illnesses that affect adults.
