Organized Medical Staff Section (OMSS) leadership opportunities

UPDATED | 2 Min Read

The Organized Medical Staff Section (OMSS) offers its members various opportunities to be involved and advocate for patients and the profession.

The Employed Physician Caucus advises and provides counsel to the OMSS and to AMA staff on policy matters that bear directly on employed physicians and their patients. The caucus focuses on developing strategies, educational programs and policies to better serve AMA members, potential members and patients who practice in an employed setting.

The 2025 OMSS Annual Meeting will include elections for the positions of chair and vice chair of the Employed Physician Caucus. Nominations open March 10, 2025, and are due May 7, 2025.

Interested candidates should submit a statement and CV, which will be posted on the AMA website. The election will take place June 7. Candidates must be present to accept their elected position. Please send CV and statement to omss@ama-assn.org

Ideal candidates for the chair and vice chair should have been active in one of the previous Employed Physician Caucus meetings.

The strategy and activities for the OMSS are directed by a seven-member governing council elected by section membership.

The next OMSS Governing Council election will be held in 2026. Open positions will include:

  • Chair
  • Vice chair
  • Secretary
  • Delegate
  • Alternate delegate
  • Member at-large (2)

The application for these open positions will be posted once available.

OMSS representatives are selected by their medical staff peers and play a key role in the functioning of the section. In addition to representing the interests and concerns of their medical staffs at biannual OMSS meetings, OMSS representatives serve as liaisons between the OMSS and medical staffs across the country. Learn more about OMSS representative duties and responsibilities (PDF).

To certify an Organized Medical Staff Section representative from a medical staff, complete the certification form.

Contribute to OMSS policymaking efforts by submitting a resolution for consideration at an OMSS meeting. Visit the OMSS online member forum for more information or submit resolutions to Jason.Ranville@ama-assn.org.

Volunteer opportunities are available at each OMSS Annual and Interim Meeting and throughout the year:

  • Candidate Interview Committee
  • Committee on Late Resolutions
  • Education Committee
  • Membership and Engagement Committee
  • Policy Committee
  • Reference Committee
