Robert B. Snyder, MD, an advisor to the AMA Guides Editorial Panel, spent 37 years as a practicing orthopedic surgeon and now serves as medical director for the Tennessee Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.
Dr. Snyder’s responsibilities with the bureau include medical treatment guidelines, utilization review, case management, fee schedules, rules, physician/provider communications and staff support for the medical advisory committee and the medical payment committee. He is the course director for the bureau’s physician education program and an instructor for the certified physician program and WorkComp College. He previously served on the Medical Care Cost Containment Committee for Workers’ Compensation.
A popular speaker, Dr. Snyder has lectured for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the National Workers' Compensation and Disability Conference, the National Association of Workers' Compensation Judges and a variety of Tennessee societies. He has made numerous presentations to attorneys, case managers, employers, adjusters and insurers.
A graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine, Dr. Snyder trained at the University of Pittsburgh before completing a residency in orthopedics and rehabilitation at Vanderbilt University.
